Wear and Tear - How Osteopathy can help

Like all mechanical bodies, we develop a degree of wear and tear over time with use.

wear-tearThis often manifests as pain, discomfort and difficulty doing the day to day activities we used to do without thinking.  As we get older, the elasticity of our tissues reduces and this increases the chance of injuring the soft tissues and bony structures of the body.  In other cases, arthritis is the cause of joint swelling, pain and stiffness.

Osteopathy & the effects of aging

Whilst we cannot reverse the effects of aging on the body, osteopaths can help to alleviate many of the associated aches and pains by improving movement, easing stiffness and loosening muscles and joints, all helping the body in its ability to compensate for these normal age-related changes.

Osteopathy may help with:

  • Lower back pain and stiffness
  • Neck and arm pain
  • Hip & knee pain
  • Arthritis and joint-swelling
  • Rehabilitation after hip or knee replacement/surgery
  • Keeping hands and wrists mobile for daily living activities (writing, cooking, dressing etc)

At Knights Osteopathy, we will also advise on gentle stretching exercises designed to preserve joint movement and prevent recurrences.

Please keep in mind that we don’t claim to be able to cure conditions such as arthritis.  However, many patients find that osteopathic treatment helps to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility.
